Getting Goofy - Week 1

It's hard to believe it, but in 190 days, I am going to embark on an amazing journey.  And by amazing, I mean stupid....ridiculous.....crazy....even...GOOFY!

For you see, in 190 days, I am going to toe the line of the first of two races in the Goofy Challenge at Disney World.  I will run a half marathon on Saturday (13.1 miles) and my very first FULL marathon on Sunday (26.2 miles)...for a grand total of 39.3 miles over two days.  It makes me want to throw up a little.  I mean, I've got the half.  It will be NO problem.  I am not quite sure about the full and I am REALLY not quite sure about running a full 24 hours after I run a half.

Training started this week and I am determined to rebuild my base and finish this challenge.  Finishing and feeling great is a double win with bonus points, but at this point, I'll take a finish.

I had planned to start Jeff Galloway's Goofy training plan from the very beginning.....then I remembered that I am running a pretty hilly half in 22 days.  I also remembered that I haven't run since the Run for the Dream on June 1 and took a solid two week vacation from running and eating properly.  So, I modified the first month of training to get somewhat ready for the half at the end of July.  The most important part of the training right now is getting my behind out the door for the week day runs.  I think week one was a success.  Only 26 weeks to go!

Here's a brief recap of this week's training:

Tuesday - up at 5:00am (in the morning) to meet some running friends for a little over 3 miles.  It was early and humid and slow, but it felt good and it got done.  I really think that I run faster when I stop running my mouth, but I really enjoy the conversations that happen on the run!  Either way, 3.25 miles....DONE!

Thursday - up at 4:45 am (in the morning) to meet the same girls for some speed work.  They both cancelled so I did what anyone else would do and I got back in bed.  Of course, I had guilt over that, so I stayed in bed until my husband's alarm went off and I got up to do my speed work by myself in my neighborhood.  Because I stayed in bed, I could only do 3 half mile repeats instead of the 4 on the schedule.  I had to get back in the house so Race Support could get to work on time.  It was hot and sticky out there, but I was pretty pleased with my speed work.  2 miles....done.

Saturday - planning on 6 mile long run.  I'll let you know!

In other news...I am still working on my trip report for the amazing Alaskan cruise that we just finished.  It's coming...I promise!!
